It is now September (Oh my..where has the summer gone). School is official starting next week and I am in my classroom busy preparing to meet my new class in a new school.
This year has brought a lot of changes and growth to my teaching life and I am excited to embark on the journey of having my own classroom. Although that being said it is sure a lot of work! As I began planning this year I really had to ask myself what I wanted to see in my classroom, in my students and from myself. I decided that this is the year of classroom management and community. My goals for this year are to create a classroom management plan that helps me to structure learning and to create a safe and organized environment for my students. I have now spent a lot of time making my classroom an appealing, organized, and efficient place where my students and I can move freely and have purpose during our days. I have to say I am quite happy with the outcome of this journey and you can find pictures in my photos gallery. The next step I am working on is creating a classroom management plan that allows me as a newer teacher to get down to the nitty-gritty of the curriculum without having to spend my days dealing with little classroom management scenarios. I want an efficient and organized class where students know the boundaries and expectations. I want students to feel safe and feel that they belong in the community we have created together. This is my goal. I feel now that the physical environment reflects those goals and that brings me to the topic of my current post and my latest revelation about my teacher-self. As I sat planning my math curriculum last week I was writing 'I Can' statements for my outcomes and I decided right then and there that I CAN!!! I CAN create a classroom management plan that will carry us through the year I CAN be an effective teacher I CAN plan for all the needs of my students I CAN have expectations and rules I CAN create a caring community of learners These have now become my goals and my mantra for this year. I look forward to sharing with you my classroom management plan and share my journey. As teachers the expectations and realities of day to day life in the classroom can often get us down or make us think that we cannot accomplish what we want to in such little time or with such little resources. But today I want to emphasize the fact that you can!!! Now Say It With Me....
